Covering all four (five at a stretch) of Weymouth’s miniature railways, plus a visit to the Fairbourne and its captive ferry service
Description

Miniature Railway 64
The Greenhill Amusements Miniature Railway
A 9.5″ line that probably only lasted a year, but like all of Weymouth’s miniature railways there are some interesting historical links.
The Weymouth Miniature Railway
This is the 1947 David Curwen line. Not the most exciting railway and it only lasted for just over 40 years, but the characters, locomotives and back-stories are fascinating.
The Bowleaze Cove Miniature Railway
Technically interesting. The ‘Switcher’ locomotive was an early and very large battery-electric designed by Patrick Henshaw and built by Tom Smith, who went on to build a whole class of simpler, cheaper versions.
The Weymouth Bay Miniature Railway
The only one to survive to the current day. Once again, there are some interesting stories behind the locomotives, and we’re back to David Curwen in 2025, with the Severn Lamb ‘Rio Grande’
