Another issue packed with interest – down under to visit the Lynton Railway, back to see the classic 10.25″ collection at Royal Victoria, then across to Sussex to explore the Bolebroke Castle complex
Description
The Royal Victoria Railway
One of the most important 10.25″ railways. It’s an interesting railway in a busy park, but the USP is the locomotives and Peter Bowers has assembled a unique stable of rare thoroughbreds, which is still expanding today. It’s been a safe haven for abused locomotives for 40 years.
The Bolebroke Castle Railway
Deep in the Sussex countryside, this was a legendary private railway that held occasional open days, and what a railway it was! Serious gradients, switchbacks, lakes, tunnels… it had the lot. Now gone sadly, but the remaining photographs give just a glimpse of what it was like.
Lynton Miniature Railway
Sounds like Devon, but this is Lynton, Queensland, Australia. An attractive line, strangely English like so much in Australia, but so far away.
